**Disclaimer: I use both published adventures and my own imagination to create this campaign. About 75% of it is my own creation while some is inspired by others’ writings. For this however, I have used a published adventure for about 80% of it. I would like to give credit where credit is due: This session was inspired by the adventure, “Tomb of Horrors” by Ari Marmell and Scott Fitzgerald Gray**
The people of Vor Rukoth were so happy that their city had been liberated that they threw a small parade for the heroes. Some followers of Kord gifted Shadow a dragonslayer sword for his victory over the dragon. They also held a ceremony in which they branded him with the Tattoo of Vengeance. Argarwane was met by a group of bannersmen and his royal guard. He headed back to Algoria with them and took Gauthak and Raylon with him as personal bodyguards.
Shadow and Three continued out of Vor Rukoth to Coyote’s Refuge. They were approached by 7 cloaked figures.
1 Shadar-Kai Painbearer – XP 1200
1 Shadar-Kai Dawnkiller – XP 1000
1 Shadar-Kai Blacksoul – XP 1000
4 Ghost Talon Thugs – XP 175 each
One drew a kukri blade and said, “At last, we have found you. You will perish for your dealings in the Feywild!” The figures attacked as the two PCs went back to back fighting them off. Just as things were beginning to go their way, darkness surrounded them and suddenly three of the remaining figures had Shadow captured with blades to his throat. Three sheathed his weapon and stood across from them.
“Release him, or feel the fury of Kordasa Battlestorm,” a strong voice said from the shadows behind the cloaked figures. One turned and attacked wildly. The body behind the voice slammed his blade away with a shield and drove his own blade deep into the gut of the attacker. A divine intervention caused a light from the heavens to blind the other two figures as Three teleported Shadow to safety. The rescuer stepped from the shadows to reveal an old friend, Thalion.
The figures turned out to be assassins sent by the Raven Queen. They had believed that the PCs were behind the evil in the Garden of the Graves. Another shadar-kai figure then steps from the shadows and introduces himself as Baden. He was sent to follow the assassins but he believes the PCs may be of no threat to the Raven Queen. He tells them that they found a connection to the Garden of Graves deep within the Shadowfell and if the PCs agree to check it out, he will escort them. They agree and he leads them to a portal deep underground. They land in Moil, the City that Waits deep within the Shadowfell.
4 Moilian Zombies – XP 800 each
2 Winter Wights – XP 1200 each
They are met by the undead in the ruins of a tower connected to many others by perilous bridges. Using Three’s divine powers, they overcome the undead. But this fight leaves the PCs hurt and tired. (I have removed the option of an extended rest for the time being to make things more interesting.) They continue into a tower loaded with traps to test adventurers. Thalion has a rough time with some scything blades but other than that they make it through unscathed.
1 Moilian Barrow – XP 5000
The PCs then find a large mass of bones and body parts knitting themselves together. They are faced with a giant undead beast. Baden manages to get atop the beast while the others surround it. After a rough battle, the PCs emerge victorious again. They grow weaker and more tired as time goes on.
At last they reach the portal that leads to where Baden told them they needed to go. It has been warded recently so they work to undo the magical wards. A gargantuan creature screams of a thousand voices behind them.
1 Tortured Vestige – XP 14,000
The monster engulfs Three whole. The others are battered around and can’t seem to get the upper hand. They quickly realize that they need to unlock the portal and get out of here. There is no victory in fighting this creature, only death. They succeed in opening the portal and Thalion manages to free Three. They all sprint for the portal and jump in. Everything fades to black as they begin falling…
