Our heroes enjoyed a parade in their honor along with free drinks after the defeat of Calastryx. A “Giant’s Foot” tournament was held at the local tavern and Baurus held onto his title of Giant’s Foot Champion of Hammerfast! Then they moved on to look for clues to Starfire (the man they have been looking for).
An old man at a tavern had seen him a few months back.
“In Hammerfast, there is an unmarked tomb. Buried deep within it you will find a map. It is said to lead to the most dangerous place in the entire world. My bet is that that crazy eladrin is already on his way there, if not arrived already.”
The tomb is unmarked and a cool breeze flows from the entrance. Inside there is an open archway leading to a descending staircase. Down here, the floor is made of stone and the walls carved from the rock of the earth. It is cool and quiet. The hallway ends at a spiral staircase leading deeper into the earth. The door opens into a wide room surrounding a pool of water. Two doors flank a set of double doors on the opposite side. The double doors are locked (DC 35) and require two keys. A chest is also next to the railing.
Encounter 1 350 XP
There is a Flame Jet Trap guarding this chest. (DMG 90)
The chest contains three gems worth 1000gp each.
Encounter 2 1100 XP
The orcs can be heard on the other side of the door. They are talking about the recent word of the dragon attacking Hammerfast. They are seated around a table. There are:
1 Orc Chieftain (MM 204)
4 Orc Warriors (MM 203)
Encounter 3 1500 XP
There is a room with high ledges surrounding it. Archers sit atop the 20 foot walls. An alchemist with two guards are near the table at the other end. The alchemist has a key around his neck.
1 Orc Alchemist – 600 XP
2 Orc Warriors (MM 203) – 100 XP each
4 Orc Archers – 175 XP each
The table has some useless chemicals, a bag of 500 GP, and a painting of Gruumsh adorns the wall above the table.
Encounter 4 200 XP
Writings on the floor read in Dwarvish:
“A name not spoken, a history forgotten. A nightmare lost forever in hopes of a better future. Those brave enough to speak it, shall enter.” The answer is: Calastryx.
The PCs enter a room full of mirrors. As you enter, you notice the room is full of mirrors. You look at your reflections before realizing you are now looking out at your friends from within the mirror. A closer look and they are gone. You are now in a labyrinth, alone. It is dark and cold.
Each choker worth 600 XP
Each minotaur worth 400 XP
Helm of the Eagle (PH 248)
Iron Ring of the Dwarf Lords (PH 251)
Potion of Vitality x2
Upon entering the double doors, a large corridor leads you to a grand room. Orcs and dwarves guard a doorway that leads down a hall. The hall appears to have a green glow to it.
Encounter 6 3450 XP
2 Orc Archers 175 XP each
3 Orc Warriors 100 XP each (MM 203)
2 Dwarf Bolters 600 XP each
2 Dwarf Thugs 200 XP each
2 Dwarf Hammerers 600 XP each
The PCs decided to take the portal. It will lead them to the world of Greyhawk and eventually into the Tomb of Horrors. That is where they have last pinpointed Starfire.
I’m stoked to play Tomb of Horrors with my friends. I’m waiting for it to come in the mail and next week it will begin. Stay tuned into the blog for more details. Thanks for reading!
